Chim chiminey, chim chiminey, chim chim cher-ee!

As the Fall season approaches we look forward to cooler days, pumpkin spice everything, our favorite sweaters and cozying up next to the fireplace. And is there anything better than relaxing and watching those gorgeous flames (and your favorite football team!) and smelling that wonderful aromatic scent? Before you partake of such a lovely pastime be sure and check out these safety tips to ensure your fireplace is ready and good to go for the fun!

Tip #1: Use a screen! Either glass or metal.

Tip #2: Check your smoke and Carbon Monoxide detectors. Ensure they have new batteries and are working properly.

Tip #3: Keep anything flammable away from the fireplace. And don't throw waste materials such as paper into the fire.

Tip #4: Burn only seasoned wood in your fireplace. Burning green wood causes a bigger fire hazard.

Tip #5: Keep a fire extinguisher handy! Be sure and check the expiration date on those as well and replace them regularly.

Tip #6: Put fires out before going to bed or leaving your home.

Tip #7: Have a professional Chimney Sweep clean your fireplace once a year. They check for cracks, residue and buildup, and pesky critters.

Follow these tips to have an enjoyable, autumnal season. Happy Fall Y'all!!!
