It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year.

Updated: Jul 10, 2019

I admit it. I'm already listening to Christmas music. My co-workers are happy they don't share an office space with me. I can't explain why I love cheesy holiday music, I just know it makes me happy. To make matters worse for all those involved, I'm chomping at the bit to get the tree and decorations up.

I smirked in"Grinch-esque" fashion however, when I stumbled upon this article, Science Confirms People Who Decorate For Christmas Early Are Happier. At least now I could say that science (or perhaps just psychology) has my back. The carols, the lights, the bells; they come earlier and earlier every year. For some, this brings smiles and others only eye rolls. But try with all your might to be kind for us early holiday decorators. After all, Santa's watching.

"In a world full of stress and anxiety people like to associate to things that make them happy and Christmas decorations evoke those strong feelings of childhood. Decorations are simply an anchor or pathway to those old childhood magical emotions of excitement. For people who have lost a loved one, the holidays may serve as a reminder of happy times they had with that person in the past. Decorating early may help them feel more connected with that individual.”
